According to a letter sent to Grand Rapids Public School staff, Bridget Cheney, the chief area instructional leader for the city’s southeast quadrant, will remain on paid administrative leave through the end of the current school year.
The letter, written by Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby, stated the district was committed to transparency, but “because this is a personnel matter, the district cannot comment further on the circumstances surrounding the leave.”
Last month, Deputy Superintendent of Preschool-12 Learning and Leadership Brandy Lovelady Mitchell was placed on leave and is not expected to return to work this year. GRPS officials did not comment on why she was placed on leave, again citing personnel matters.
GRPS’s District Ombudsperson, Maleika Brown, will take over Cheney’s responsibilities.
Roby stated, “We are grateful to have a dedicated and experienced leader ready to step in and provide stable guidance for our schools.”
