“This is not just a report, this a moment for shared reflection.”
And reflecting on his first full year in office Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand says he is learning.
“I’ve learned a lot. I’ve stumbled at times. I’ve had to slow down. I’ve had to ask for grace and to all of those who have extended grace to me I want to say thank you.”
Mayor LaGrand says Grand Rapids is a safer city than it was 12 months ago.
“We’ve made real progress in the last year on public safety, reducing harm in all of its forms. Crime, traffic accidents, emergencies and everyday conflict.”
And he says the number of places to live in the city has grown over the past year, but more are needed.
“We know we need more housing in Grand Rapids, but we are making real progress with massive private sector investment of almost one billion dollars.”
And with the Restore the Rapids project getting underway in the Grand River, the Acrisure Amphitheater about to open and the Amway soccer stadium under construction:
“They will invite more people to visit our city find out what a great place it is and maybe join us in living here. Thank you all.”
