Five males have been shot since Sunday, including a 15-year-old boy killed Tuesday night in Muskegon Heights

“This is not something that happens every single day in the city of Muskegon and we are not going to tolerate that.”

Muskegon mayor Ken Johnson calls the recent surge in gun violence abnormal and distressing.

“Any incident of gun violence is unacceptable. The rash of incidents that have happened in the past couple of days is particularly distressing.”

Five people wounded or killed by gunfire in Muskegon and Muskegon Heights since Sunday, including 15-year-old Tayvon Watson who died at the hospital after he was shot Tuesday night in Muskegon Heights.

“I got eyes on what happened.”

Beau VanSolkema says he witnessed one of the shootings.

“It was an abnormal thing. I’ve lived in the city for five years roughly. It is a safe city. “

“We do not believe this is random.”

Muskegon city manager Jonathan Seyferth says it appears the shooters are targeting specific individuals and the police need help finding them.

“If you know something, say something. You can make anonymous tips to the police department.”

Muskegon Heights Councilman Ronald Jenkins says reporting rumors about planned attacks could even be helpful.

“We hear the stuff sometimes probably before it happens. My goal is figure out ways to curb the violence not only in Muskegon Heights but surrounding municipalities.”
