Grand Rapids Public Schools hits decade-high graduation rate

The district says it will build off these successes by continuing to prepare students for life beyond grade school

“The Class of 2025. 83.2% graduation rate. Highest in recent history. Up from 82.5% the year before, and it’s something we continue to celebrate here year after year.”

That’s Grand Rapids Public Schools Director of Communications Luke Stier. He believes GRPS’ Reimagine campaign investing $300 million into the district will continue to bring new families and students to the district.

“In 2016, we had 502 graduates that year, and our graduation rate was 65%. Here we are, a decade later, moved on from 502 graduates that year, to 754 graduates with the Class of 2025, and a graduation rate of 83%. That’s a 27% increase in graduation rate and a 50% increase in the number of graduates.”

Stier says the district will build off these successes by continuing to prepare students for life beyond grade school.

“We’re at a high right now for the number of graduates enrolling in college, also preparing scholars to go right directly into careers as well.”

Graduation data was compiled by the Michigan Department of Education.
