Senators Elissa Slotkin and Gary Peters voted against a funding package that included money for the Department of Homeland Security. It’s part of an effort to reform Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Democrats are calling for restrictions on ICE, including a ban on wearing masks and requiring judicial warrants for home searches.

Talking with reporters in Detroit on Monday, Senator Slotkin says until there is real reform, she will not support funding the agency.

“The idea of having uniform military and federal law enforcement in our streets, and how fundamentally, I think, un-American that feels to most people, and the abuses that are going on in Minneapolis.”

Slotkin also called for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, stating her handling of incidents in Minneapolis where U.S. citizens were killed by federal agents proves she is unqualified.

Last year Slotkin voted to confirm Noem as DHS Secretary.
