Ottawa County parks slated for $800,000 in state-funded improvements

Ottawa County Parks

If approved, improvements will be made to Rosy Mound Natural Area and the Idema Explorer's Trail

The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board has recommended funding for improvements to two Ottawa County Parks - $400,000 for Rosy Mound Natural Area and $400,000 for the Bass River Segment of the Idema Explorer’s Trail.

Proposed improvements to Rosy Mound include a new 50-space day-use parking area and over two miles of new trails, expanding the total trail system to nearly 4.5 miles.

The MNRTF’s recommendation would also fund Phase II of the Bass River Segment of the Idema Explorer’s Trail. This phase includes constructing a nearly 1-mile, 10-foot-wide paved pedestrian and bicycle trail from the Max Bayou boat launch to the Bass River Open Space. This segment of the 7.4-mile Bass River corridor will connect five parks and feature extensive waterfront views.

The Trust Fund Board’s recommendations now advance to the state legislature for review. If approved, a bill would be sent to Governor Whitmer for signature.
