The Michigan U.S. Senator says the President’s comments are a product of the current political climate

Michigan U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin is responding to President Donald Trump’s call for her to be hanged for treason.

Trump made the comments on social media and promoted other statements that called for violence.

The Trump Administration has committed several extrajudicial killings of people in boats they claim are drug dealers.

Slotkin was among a handful of other Congresspeople to put out a video this week reminding active servicemembers that their obligation is to the law and the Constitution.

In a video posted to social media, Slotkin says she isn’t phased by the President’s comments:

“I refuse to believe that we're going to use fear and intimidation against people we disagree with, and I'm not going to be forced away from speaking up on behalf of my country.”

A White House spokesperson was dismissive of the President’s comments, saying that he wasn’t actually calling for sitting Congress people to be killed.
