After lifting a long-standing ban on all alcohol sales nearly 20 years ago, Zeeland city council members voted 6-1 to allow for its sale from noon on Sundays until 2 a.m. on Monday.
“Well, we’re pretty excited about it. Progression is good, you know? Moving forward.”
Mike Gritzmaker owns The Gritzmaker Social House. He says being able to sell alcohol on Sundays will allow him to expand his business to seven days a week.
“I think we’re going to have some good revenue made on Sundays around here. I think a lot of people are ready for it, watching football or coming in after church. We might be looking into a brunch situation.”
Council members also updated the city’s social district policy, allowing for the consumption of alcohol at Elm Street Park and Vande Luyster Square, but not the splash pad at Main and Elm Streets.
The ban on alcohol sales and service remains in effect during specific hours on Christmas Eve through December 26th.
The amended ordinance goes into effect December 18th.
