Indian Mounds Drive is a one-way northbound road along the Grand River and I-196 directly across from Millenium Park in Grand Rapids with a walking and biking trail.
It also includes the Grand River Burial Mounds, one of the most significant indigenous burial sites in the Midwest.
“It only sees 200 vehicles a day, so it doesn't get a ton of traffic, but it is a unique four-mile stretch road and riverside green space that connects the cities of Granville, Wyoming and Grand Rapids.”
Christina Anthony is the Communications Manager for the Kent County Parks Department which is leading a study to build consensus around a common vision for the
drive’s future.
“We would really prefer to get this feedback from folks who are using this corridor: cyclists, pedestrians, anglers, you know there's a boat launch on this corridor, too as well as stakeholders and the property owners near the corridor.”
Those stakeholders include the Grand Rapids Public Museum, as well as the Grand River Band of Ottawa Indians.
Anthony says safety is a key focus of the study but not the only concern.
“We also want to protect and celebrate the unique natural and cultural resources right along the Grand River. It's also an opportunity for stewardship right along the Grand River.”
The survey can be found on the Kent County website under the Parks Department.
