Grand Rapids’ Gerald R. Ford International Airport is choosing not to play a controversial video released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security due to its political content

In the video expected to be shown at airport security checkpoints, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem blames Democrats for the federal government shutdown that has led to travel delays, air traffic controller shortages and security concerns.

“It is TSA top priority to make sure that you have the most pleasant and efficient airport experience as possible while we keep you safe. However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government. And because of this, many of our operations are impacted and most of our TSA employees are working without pay. We will continue to do all that we can to avoid delays that will impact your travel. And our hope is that Democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government."

A spokesperson for the Ford Airport released a statement reading, “The video is not currently being played at the Airport; we have not experienced significant disruption to our operations at GRR. The limited digital screens are designated for static content that supports wayfinding and provides essential travel information.”

The release notes that travelers can stay updated on flight information through their airline website or mobile app and can view the status of all Ford Airport flights on its website under Flight Tracker.

Lansing's Capital Region International Airport is also among those not showing the video.
