A gift shop in the city of Wyoming is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month opening a new store this week, and the owner has been connecting her community to Mexican culture for 20 years

“We specialize in handmade items from Mexico, from home décor to clothing, jewelry, thing for kids, toys. Anything for everyone.”

But before opening her first brick and mortar store in 2019, Nancy Quero, CEO and Owner of Guelaguetza Designs, was seeking to connect her community to her Hispanic heritage dating back to 2005.

“I got many questions asked from different women, and they were wondering about the same connections, so I said, ‘Hmm, looks like there is an opportunity here,’ and that’s how I started selling items, clothing specifically, from my mom.”

Quero says her mission is building cultural bridges through the products she sells.

“We are a very diverse community, so we’re trying to contribute to that and making sure that my community with Mexican heritage has access to that, and for those who don’t have any Mexican heritage, can learn about Mexico through our products.”

Quero says she is proud to work with small family- and women-owned businesses in Mexico, providing them with opportunities to grow their operations.

Guelaguetza Designs is located at 1784 28th Street Southwest in Wyoming. It celebrates its grand re-opening this Thursday at noon.
