Touted as Beer City, Grand Rapids now has a limited-edition commemorative brew celebrating the city’s 175th anniversary

If you’re of age, you can now celebrate Grand Rapids’ 175TH anniversary by ordering a GR175 created by City Built Brewing Company.

“We've been here for eight years, trying to create community and just really be bridge builders for my culture and what it means to be in a space that's run by a Puerto Rican person. We're just so excited to be able to make this beer and to be part of really cool celebration.”

City Built CEO Edwin Collazo says the light, 5% lager is a perfect pairing for what city leaders want to convey.

“We wanted to keep on that theme of just being a very light approachable beer and so we happened to be in process of doing a beer that was very similar so it's a great beer.”

Students from Kendall College of Art and Design competed to design the label of the commemorative can.

Abe Jannenga created the winner, titled Flora, featuring blue nature-inspired designs on a white background with the anniversary logo, a good fit for the city and City Built.

“One of our taglines is always ‘You built the city; we brew its beer’ so this is a great opportunity to live that out through this collaboration.”

The limited-edition lager is now available at the City Built taproom on Monroe, as well as at restaurants and bars across Grand Rapids.
