“We’ve been doing this for a while. We do it every year as a way to really lift up and support our kids and families.”
Amber Jones is Director of Communications for D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s, which provides social service programs for families. Jones says this year, the need for school supplies is greater than ever.
“We’re actually looking to fulfill school supply lists for 475 kids.”
Supporters receive a shopping list, as well as information on favorite colors, characters, and preferences, then personally shop for backpacks. Volunteers then fill those backpacks with school supplies and deliver them to local students.
“Kids and families are struggling with different things. We’ve got a lot of families facing hardships and school supplies are definitely not cheap.”
This year’s Back to School Drive will accept drop-off donations through August 8th. Those interested in supporting monetarily or by volunteering can do so here.
