Two Kent County Sheriff’s deputies are on paid leave during the investigation into Tuesday’s officer-involved shooting in Gaines Township

Just after nine Tuesday morning, a caller reported a man was armed and acting aggressively at a home near Fontenelle Street and S. Division Avenue SE.

When deputies arrived, the man pointed a gun at them before going inside the house.

They called for backup and more resources to de-escalate the situation.

The man came out, crawled under part of the home, then fired several shots.

Deputies fired back, shooting and injuring the 66-year-old man who is in critical condition. His name has not been released.

No one else was injured.

The two deputies are on administrative leave which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.

The Wyoming Police Department is handling the investigation.
