“I didn’t really know a lot about this program until I joined it and I think it was a really good experience.”
Andrew Warren, a senior at East Kentwood High School, is talking about FutureSolve, a hands-on internship designed by Kent Intermediate School District, BAMF Health and Ferris State University. Now in its second year, the six-week summer program immerses students in real-world experiences learning about design-thinking principals, marketing, and collaborating to solve business problems proposed by BAMF Health.
“Our project was in marketing for TikTok. So, they recently started up their TikTok a few months ago, I believe, and our task was to figure out what strategy we can use to gain more followers and more popularity on TikTok.”
Director of Workforce Development at Kent ISD Ryan Graham says the benefits of programs like FutureSolve go beyond just the experience of interning at one of Grand Rapids’ major healthcare providers.
“These programs are really important because you’re getting career awareness and exposure of these opportunities right here in Grand Rapids that are world-class for students. The talent that we have in West Michigan is special. Let’s work to keep that talent right here in Grand Rapids.”
Students participating in FutureSolve receive three Ferris State University research credits.
