Monday, after 23 years, the owners of Grand Rapids’ Breton Village have sold the outdoor shopping plaza to a private development firm

Massachusetts-based developer WS Development announced their acquisition of the 200,000-square foot Breton Village shopping center.

“It’s been my baby, I guess, so to speak, and I’ve been pretty passionate about all the changes we’ve made at Breton Village over the year.”

Scott Wierda is Managing Partner of Breton Village, LLC. He, along with business partner Brian DeVries purchased Breton Village in 2002. The duo eventually brought on Dan DeVos and Dan Bown as investors, leading to the redevelopment of the property in 2017 into an open-air retail destination.

“Together we sought out to de-mall the balance of the property, and that really was, call it the final chapter. We’ve been very successful in leasing it to a lot of unique tenants.”

The buyer, WS Development, was established in 1990 and owns more than 100 properties across the country ranging from urban and retail spaces to lifestyle and community centers.

Breton Village’s sale price was not disclosed.
