The Department of Homeland Security held an event in Detroit Friday for Republican donors to discuss what they're calling “the northern border crisis.”
Congressman, and Michigan Gubernatorial Candidate, John James says Canada isn’t doing its part to protect Americans:
“Sadly, we need closer ties and more seriousness from our Canadian neighbors with regard to border security.”
James claims illegal immigrants are bringing drugs with them across the Canadian border. His evidence was a news report he saw.
He also alluded to the president’s threat to make Canada the 51st state:
“We need them to take our border security as seriously as they want us to take their sovereignty.”
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem had sharp criticism for former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, but seemed optimistic about relations with the new PM:
“We are really hopeful that this new leader, Prime Minister Carney, will be a different individual, a different individual who will work closely with the Trump administration to give us the security and the information and the partnerships that we need.”
Fentanyl seized at the U.S. Canadian Border makes up just one tenth of one percent seized by customs officials. 99.9 percent of fentanyl is seized at the U.S. border with Mexico.
While criticizing the news media and anti-deportation protesters in Los Angeles, Noem says the 1st Amendment is important to her:
“Still have a responsibility to communicate to the public why we do what we do, and why we allow people to speak freely, but we don't allow them to conduct acts of violence.”
Recently, several journalists and peaceful protesters in LA were injured by rubber bullets fired by police.
