Michigan’s Elissa Slotkin was the lone Democrat to support it in the U.S. Senate

Trump is revoking a waiver that let California set its own fuel emission standards and require only electric vehicle sales by 2035. Automakers complained California’s timeframe was un-realistic and called for a single national standard.

Trump, who vowed to end rules that favor EV’s, agrees:

“We officially rescue the U.S. auto industry from destruction by terminating California electric vehicle mandate once and for all”

Michigan Republican Congressman John James, who led the House effort against the waiver, says ending it will protect auto jobs. Michigan’s Elissa Slotkin was the lone Democrat to support it in the U.S. Senate. Critics counter the move hurts the environment and cedes the EV market to China.
