Saturday, a military a parade in Washington, D.C. will celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary. It coincides with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. Nationwide, a group known as Indivisible is organizing more than 1,000 events protesting Trump’s policies

“On June 14th, 1775, the Continental Congress created the U.S. Amry to stand up against a monarch who claimed absolute power. We’re gathering to remind Trump and his enablers that America has no king.”

Becky Palmer fills a leadership role with Indivisible Greater Grand Rapids along with Mary Gleiter.

“We are making this as peaceful a protest as possible.”

Over 1,600 rallies nationwide are planned Saturday, dubbed No Kings Day, protesting President Donald Trump’s taxpayer-funded military parade through Washington, D.C., proposed budget cuts to food and healthcare programs, and protecting democracy from what Indivisible calls “Trump’s authoritarian vision.”

Susan Sorg is Co-chair of West Michigan Indivisible, which is also holding a rally in downtown Grand Rapids.

“This is a statement of our solidarity, our solidarity as people, supporting our constitution, supporting our democratic rights and bringing people together peacefully.”

Indivisible Greater Grand Rapids will hold its rally in Ah-Nab-Awen Park Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
