“So, the dollars that we depend on to do this work and to reinvest back into Kent County, they are in jeopardy.”
Kent County Community Action Director Gustavo Perez says that 90% of the organization’s funds come from the federal government.
“We have a food distribution program that, last year, provided over 113,000 food boxes for Kent County residents.”
KCCA also provided 13,000 rides to those needing access to healthcare and jobs, as well as served over 20,000 culturally sensitive meals to seniors and prevented hundreds of families from eviction.
“Right now, we’re just working with our legislators, we’re working with our community partners trying to navigate. We’re all in the same boat. We’re all in this together, so we’re having a lot of conversations and trying to figure out what the next steps are.”
Perez says despite KCCA’s concern over potential funding cuts, the organization is committed to serving Kent County residents for as long as they’re able.
