The Democratic governor has tempered her criticisms of Trump in his second term. She also met with the Republican president recently in the Oval Office – a meetup that went unexpectedly public. This week, she met him at the airport and appeared with him to announce a fighter jet placement at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, but has spoken out against Trump’s sweeping tariffs and potential cuts to Medicaid.
“I will both fight back when I need to and try to get Michigan’s priorities done wherever I can.”
The governor says she is still seeking federal help to keep invasive carp out of the Great Lakes and for people across northern Michigan who suffered big losses in ice storms.
