Some communities have set up warming stations in public buildings as many go without power

In the village of Wolverine in Cheboygan County, trees droop down from the weight of thick ice. Limbs can be heard snapping every so often.

At the local highschool, a small group of people seek shelter to keep warm and charge their devices as crews work to clear debris.

Steve Evoy came here to fill up on water. He’s a pastor at a nearby church and a teacher at Inverness Academy.

He said he spent Monday checking in on his congregation and students

“I'm mainly concerned about people who don't have any water power or heat, especially folks in trailers and stuff. So I'm driving around trying to just look in on driveways. And lived here most of my life, and we do what we can to take care of our own.”

Officials are urging the public to stay home and off the roads if possible or take shelter in a warming station.

It may take several days for power to be restored and for some roads to be cleared.
