It’s now possible to earn a degree on your phone thanks to a partnership between Cornerstone University and Michigan Software Labs

“The average American spends about 40 hours on TikTok and reels and Facebook. What if we put that to good use where you could actually earn a bachelor’s degree?”

Ada-based Michigan Software Labs co-founder and partner Mark Johnson says the SOAR app assists working adults earn a bachelor’s degree in strategic business management while also helping companies grow their employees from within. Twelve companies, including Gordon Food Services and Lake Michigan Credit Union, had employees participating in the testing phase and are now enrolled in SOAR.

“If you’re familiar with Netflix or Prime, it’s built around episodes and seasons, and so you’re able to learn in a similar format.”

Adult learners have the freedom to complete coursework anytime, anywhere, allowing them to set their own pace using tools like videos, podcasts, audiobooks and articles.

Cornerstone University President Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riano, who brought the app concept to Michigan Software Labs two years ago, says a student with no college credits will spend $24,000 or less to earn their bachelor’s degree through SOAR.

“Right now, we’re charging a $2,400 flat price for four months, considered a traditional semester, for as many courses as you can take and finish.”

Financial aid is available for SOAR, and companies offering the app often help pay for employees to earn their degree.

Companies currently participating with SOAR are Butterball Farms, Eastbrook Homes, Express Employment Professionals, First Companies, Gilson Graphics, Gordon Food Service, Lake Michigan Credit Union, Lumbermen’s Inc., Merle Boes, The My Auto Group, Royal Technologies, and Weather Shield Roofing Systems.
