“I am proud to say that GRPS is a district that is on the rise.”
Dr. Roby was joined by parents, students, faculty and city leaders, highlighting some of the district’s positive stats, including the uptick in graduation rates.
“For the class of 2023, more than 82% of our scholars received a diploma, putting GRPS above the state average for the first time in decades.”
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, public school attendance throughout the country has been down, however Roby says that GRPS is starting to see those numbers rise again.
“Attendance this past year rose to nearly 88%, up slightly from the year before. We believe by continuing to partner with our parents and caregivers, we’ll reach the goal of 95% average daily attendance.”
Enrollment also rose for the first time since 2016 and was the largest enrollment increase since 2001. Teacher vacancies are also getting filled.
“Two years ago, we had nearly 200 teacher vacancies in our district. Today, that number is down to 93.”
In closing, Dr. Roby acknowledged the fear many in the district currently face due to the Trump administration’s increased immigration enforcement, stating that GRPS will continue to be a safe space for all children.
