Superintendent Nick Cassidy met with staff members this week sharing the district’s 5-year plan to upgrade facilities, provide equitable access to programming, and right-size the district, reducing operational costs.
The biggest change is the proposed redistricting and consolidating of elementary programs by 2027 into three buildings: Nature-Based Holland Heights, West Elementary, and Holland Language Academy.
Under the current proposal, Jefferson Elementary would undergo renovations to become the new home for the language academy.
The VanRaalte building would become an Early Childhood Center, increasing the availability of preschool, while Maplewood would turn into housing.
Leaders are still looking at options for Longfellow.
A series of meetings is scheduled over the next two months to explain the plans and get community feedback.
The schedule is posted on the Holland Public Schools website.
