Warns funding freeze would cause project delays, increase costs, jeopardize jobs and hamper local economic development

“I am so deeply concerned with the harm that this administration, and the allies in Congress, are imposing on our clean water future.”

That’s U.S. Representative Hillary Scholten speaking during this week’s Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee Hearing on the Clean Water Act.

“In just three weeks the President has thrown cities and towns into chaos by shutting down funding, allocated by Congress, for water infrastructure projects including the historic investments in water infrastructure provided through the bipartisan infrastructure law.”

The Grand Rapids Democrat serves as Vice Ranking Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee. Scholten expressed uncertainty will delay projects, add cost and impact local economic development. Adding the 28,000 jobs created for every billion dollars invested are at risk.
