They say the blood is needed now

The American Red Cross is again urging donors help out after thousands of donations went uncollected last month.

The Red Cross says in a news release that all blood types are needed, especially O negative blood. Officials add that donors are encouraged to make and keep their donation appointments so hospitals can continue to ensure critical care for patients this winter.

Since the beginning of January, hundreds of blood drives have been canceled and more than 16,000 blood and platelet donations have gone uncollected due to severe winter weather.

The Red Cross is encouraging donors to help build up the blood supply. You can go to RedCrossBlood.org to book a time.
