They are called Giants, the exceptional black leaders honored in Grand Rapids each year

“You can talk to anyone, and they’ll tell you: I’m passionate about youth and young leaders having access to real opportunities that can transform their lives.”

Cle Jackson is the president of the Greater Grand Rapids NAACP and this year’s top honoree - the Giant Among Giants - for his contributions to public service, social justice and community empowerment.

Since 1983, the Giant Awards honor African American men and women who shape the history, quality of life and culture of West Michigan communities.

Jackson, a Grand Rapids native, spoke of his career at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and his lifelong dedication to advocating for equity in healthcare, housing, economic prosperity and political representation.

“School board seats, and city council seats and county commission set and township seats because really now the fight is going to be at the local level with all the foolishness in Washington as is playing out in real time.”
