The Muskegon County Homeless Continuum of Care is still looking for volunteers for tonight’s annual Point in Time Count

Each year, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires homeless networks around the country to conduct a census of a community’s homeless population on the last Wednesday in January.

The Point in Time, or PIT Count, provides an opportunity for the Muskegon community to come together to ensure that every person in need is accounted for and supported.

Volunteers are needed to help gather critical data on homelessness, which not only highlights immediate needs within the community, but helps secure state and federal funding for housing programs. It also provides an opportunity to engage directly with individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity and connect them to services they may need.

Volunteers must be 18-years or older or 13-years or older with a parent or guardian. Most surveying is done in teams on foot, and volunteers can expect to walk anywhere from 1 to 2 miles or for three hours.

Volunteers report to the United Way of the Lakeshore at 31 Clay Street in Muskegon at 7 PM tonight and can expect to work until 11 PM or later.

For more information, volunteers can call (231) 332-4012.
