Grandville’s Planning Commission approved Poag Development Group’s plans to tear down the parking deck and replace it with surface parking. The upper deck of the structure, located on the north end of the mall, has been closed to shoppers for some time. Removal of the deck would reduce parking at the mall by almost 1,400 spaces.
According to planning documents, the Memphis-based development group also plans on redeveloping two new parcels totaling 2.63 acres north of and facing the mall for future tenants.
In a statement, CEO of Poag Development Group said demolition is expected to start this spring and will likely be finished sometime this summer.
RiverTown Crossings was acquired by Poag in August for more than $97 million. It has since invested more than $1 million into improving the mall with new landscaping, repairing the merry-go-round, and parking lot resurfacing. The group hopes to turn the mall into a mixed-use lifestyle center with retail, restaurants and entertainment, and is also considering hotel and residential uses for the property.
