A pair of West Michigan business owners will serve prison time for operating a long-running fraud and identity theft scheme

Married couple Gregory Hite and Bridget Bureau will spend time in a federal prison for their roles in defrauding nearly 40 victims of more than $3 million dollars.

The 39-year-olds pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit wire fraud and using the identities of others to fraudulently obtain financing for their former west Michigan businesses.

Those operated under several names including Hites RV, Alpine Trailer Sales, Great Lakes Recreational, Great Lakes Trailer, GLR Transport, and Great Lakes Trailer Manufacturing.

The fraud scheme collapsed when the defendants ran out of money and lenders began seeking repayment from the identity theft victims.

Hite is sentenced to serve 150 months in prison and Bureau 51 months.

They are also ordered to pay nearly $2 million in restitution to their victims.
