The Michigan Senate sent a series of bills to the governor last night in what was likely its last round of voting this year

Some of the bills would have schools sending home literature to parents about the state’s safe gun storage laws.

Republicans opposed the bills. Senator Michelle Hoitenga says bills to provide more funding for school safety and mental health should have seen votes instead.

“These are resources our schools desperately need”

But Democratic Senator Mallory McMorrow says people may not know the current gun laws, including one that requires guns to be locked up if a child is present.

“All this legislation is asking is for information to be sent home to parents to let them know what the law is and where they can access free locks.”

The Senate was the only chamber of the Michigan legislature to pass bills this week. The House struggled with attendance.
