Kent County is following the trend statewide with record-breaking early voter turnout so how is the voting going this Election Day?

“It’s smooth sailing for sure. Just as in any election there are always little things that pop up but it’s nothing we’re not prepared for. It’s nothing out of the ordinary.”

Kent County Clerk Lisa Posthumus Lyons says months of preparation and collaboration have led to a smooth-running election day, but it’s really been an election season with 9 days of early voting and 45 days of absentee voting.

About 10 percent of those absentee ballots are still out.

“Make sure you get those turned into your local clerk’s office or your jurisdiction’s drop box by 8 o’clock tonight.”

Posthumus Lyons is optimistic about the timeframe for reporting results after polls close.

“I’m not going to sacrifice accuracy and security for speed but when I get results, you’ll get results. I think we’ll see results earlier certainly this presidential election than we did last presidential election.”
