The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) suggests having a quiet space for your pet as having a constant stream of visitors could be overstimulating for some animals

State Veterinarian Nora Wineland says it’s important to consider the needs of our animals when making plans for Halloween. This, to make sure they don’t have any unpleasant scares or additional stress.’

Tips from a news release include giving the Halloween candy to the trick or treaters, not your animals, especially sweets containing chocolate, raisins or artificial sweetener xylitol as these ingredients can be hazardous.

Make sure your animals have proper identification in case they get lost.

The Michigan Depart of Agriculture and Rural Development also suggests having a quiet space for your pet as having a constant stream of visitors could be overstimulating form some animals. Make sure you keep Halloween decorations and wires out of reach of your pet and if you dress up your pet, make sure it doesn’t block their sight or cause them to get overheated.

Experts say following these tips can help keep your animals safe and healthy.
