Republican candidate Paul Hudson campaigned in Wyoming Tuesday hoping to win Michigan’s 3rd Congressional seat from incumbent Democrat Hillary Scholten.

“I believe in problem solving and reaching across the aisle and working with both sides so that’s the style of congressman I’ll be for West Michigan.”

Republican Paul Hudson of East Grand Rapids is a lawyer and former U. S. Court of Appeal clerk challenging Incumbent Democrat Hillary Scholten for the U.S. 3rd District House seat.

The two were invited to a candidate forum on public access television WKTV in Wyoming by The South Kent Chamber of Commerce but Scholten was unable to attend due to a previously scheduled telephone townhall with constituents to discuss the work she's doing in Washington and West Michigan. The townhall is available on Scholten's Facebook page.

Hudson attended for a one-on-one interview with the moderator, speaking with media beforehand, sharing his plans for bringing down inflation and the cost of living in Michigan.

“The solution for it is to scale back the spending in Washington. It’s gotten out of control. Both parties are to blame for sure but what we need to do is reign in government spending.”

He also called the auto industry the backbone of Michigan’s economy and spoke of keeping jobs in the state.

“I’m all for progress but what we need to do is let consumers have choices in the vehicles they want to drive and make sure auto companies aren’t taking mandates from Washington about the types of vehicles they have to produce.”

The newly re-drawn 3rd Congressional District includes parts of Kent, Ottawa and Muskegon counties.
