The Michigan Attorney General is suing OptumRX and ExpressScripts for their alleged role in the opioid crisis

OptumRX and ExpressScripts are two of America's largest Pharmacy Benefit Managers. These companies act as negotiators between drug makers, pharmacies and health insurance companies, ostensibly to lower the cost of prescriptions for consumers.

Nessel alleges these companies illegally conspired with opioid drug makers, giving them favorable deals in exchange for kickbacks.

The AG also says OptumRX and ExpressScripts engaged in "illegal marketing of a controlled substance," that caused harm to Michiganders struggling with addiction.

She's seeking financial and other damages in the Wayne County Circuit Court.

OptumR-X and ExpressScripts did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
