Man charged after bomb threat at Trump rally in Walker

Kent County Sheriff’s Office

A Kent County man faces multiple charges after driving around police barriers at Friday’s Trump rally, claiming he had explosives.

65-year-old Steven Nauta of Sand Lake is accused of speeding through a police barrier at last Friday’s Donald Trump political rally at FALK Production in Walker.

Police say he approached a checkpoint manned by local and federal officers but ignored commands to stop and sped toward the venue.

Walker officers pursued and Nauta stopped his vehicle in the parking lot of a nearby business.

Court records show he claimed to have C-4 explosives and told officers it was “the real deal” then threw bags of fertilizer onto the ground to make them appear to be explosives.

He was arrested.

The bomb team searched his vehicle and found no device.

Nauta was arraigned Monday on felony charges of false report or threat of terrorism, possession of bombs with unlawful intent, fleeing police and resisting or obstructing a police officer.

The judge set bond at $1 million dollars.

Nauta is scheduled to be back in court October 8.
