Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance campaigns in West Michigan

Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance spent the afternoon Wednesday in West Michigan, rallying supporters at a Byron Center event

Former President Donald Trump’s vice-presidential pick Senator JD Vance of Ohio held an outdoor rally at Cordes Incorporated, a trucking and hauling company in an industrial park in Byron Center south of Grand Rapids.

Vance focused remarks on jobs, inflation, energy and immigration saying the Biden-Harris administration encouraged a “catch and release” program and proposed amnesty for illegal immigrants.

“Kamala Harris turned border patrol into a travel agency for violent criminals and freeloaders from around the world. Now President Trump and I have a different message: if you’re in this country illegally, start packing your bags because Donald Trump is going to send you home.”

Vance also took the unusual step of asking for questions from reporters at the rally, pointing out his opponent Vice President Kamala Harris has not made herself available to the media in recent weeks.

“Sometimes you need to explain certain things or sometimes new things come up and you’ve got to answer people’s questions, how are you going to address that issue or how will you address this issue? You have got to stand before the American people and answer tough questions if you want to do this job.”

Michigan is considered a key state in the path to the White House.

This is Vance’s third visit to the state since being named Trump’s running mate in July.
