A challenge filed with a statewide elections board in Michigan is seeking to keep presidential candidate Cornel West off the ballot.

The challenge claims enough signatures on West’s nominating petitions were faked that he shouldn’t be on the ballot.

That’s regardless of what percentage of a randomly pulled review sample may be valid.

Peter Kavanaugh founded the group backing the challenge “Clear Choice Action.” Kavanaugh says elections officials need to go through the paperwork line by line rather than rely on a small (754/12,000) sample.

“Understandably within a sample of that size, it’s often difficult to find fraud of this scale. That’s just the reality. Right?”

West’s campaign says the challenge is part of an effort to limit voter participation.
