Michigan's 15 electoral votes are considered must-win for the upcoming general election this November.

Peters has been a member of the U.S. Senate since 2015 and is chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the group that works to elect Democrats to the Senate.

In a statement to the Michigan Public Radio Network, a spokesperson for Peters said, "The Vice President has many strong options for her running mate, and we want to respect her process."
