The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is expanding its toll-free hotline for seasonal farmworkers to include information on influenza A.

This is in response to two reported human cases involving farmworkers interacting with sick cows.

Noting that two-thirds of Michigan’s seasonal farmworker population speak only Spanish, the hotline provides information in English, Spanish and Haitian-Creole with translation services available in other languages as well.

The hotline is 833-SIAYUDA which translates to “Yes, help” in Spanish and was launched in February 2023.

The department has a team of migrant program specialists who provide farmworkers with information about available programs and services, offer medical transportation and conduct home and camp visits.
