Michigan’s redistricting commission is redrawing metro-Detroit’s Senate maps because a federal court ruling found six of them to be unconstitutional racial gerrymanders.
Feedback from the meetings will help commissioners choose which new plan they submit to the court later this month to correct those problems.
Commission executive director Edward Woods the Third says there’s a benefit to showing up in person over attending online.
“Those who are in person get to come first and those who are in person, as long as the meeting is taking place, you can sign up for public comment. In person. For the remote meeting, you have to sign up one hour before the meeting starts.”
The meetings are taking place Tuesday through Thursday starting at 10 AM each day.
