Ford is holding a 10-day grand opening for the former train depot

Ford has had preliminary talks with Amtrak and government leaders about using the new mobility hub as a train depot.

Michigan Central CEO Josh Sirefman says he feels there is enthusiasm from all parties:

“I will say… if and when it happens… the station is not going to function in the same way as it was traditionally as a train station. But we are very excited and eager to see passenger rail come back.”

Sirefman says Michigan Central is reopening with about two-thirds of the tower space booked by tenants largely focusing on future tech.

He says Ford is close to securing a hotel partner for the site.
