The Michigan League of Conservation Voters, or LCV, is a nonpartisan political activism group dedicated to environmental causes.
Federal Government Affairs Director for LCV Bentley Johnson says the purpose of Thursday’s summit is to teach residents about the benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act, or IRA.
“So we’re talking about things like tax credits for home energy upgrades. Making your home more comfortable, weatherizing it for the winter, maximizing your heating and cooling systems. There’s a number of assistance programs and technical advisors that can really be your guide through the whole process.”
The IRA extends the clean energy Investment Tax Credit to provide up to 30% credit for residents who invest in renewable energy projects.
“A lot of the benefits that you can get through tax credits and then upcoming rebates can help lower the upfront costs, get you a tax refund, and also lower your energy bill.”
Johnson says this clean energy plan provides a range of competitive funding sources, leading to job creation within the community.
“A lot of these improvements, they have to be done on people’s homes, on businesses, so they’re jobs that have to be here, and we can train up the workforce.”
