“We sit with several competitive advantages relative to lithium, and I think we’re totally differentiated. We’re much safer than a lithium-ion battery. No fire, no explosion.”
Co-CEO Wendell Brooks says among other advantages, Natron’s sodium-ion battery technology stores and transfers power faster, more often, and with lower internal resistance than other commercially available batteries, delivering high power with a higher life cycle without toxic materials or rare earth elements.
Natron Founder and Co-CEO Colin Wessells started Natron in his garage 12 years ago. He says what this first-of-its-kind facility does in Holland will be felt throughout the industry.
“We’ve got tech invented here in the United States. It’s manufactured from scratch, here, in Holland. We’re serving customers all over the country and every sector of the economy, and that’s only the start. The model we have here is going to be replicated.”
Holland Mayor Nathan Bocks welcomed Natron to the area and says whether it’s tulips or batteries, Holland is a manufacturing community at heart.
“I did some quick math while I was sitting here. I think there has been between 4 and 5 billion dollars of investment in the city of Holland in the four years I’ve been mayor, and there was a pandemic in there.”
The plant will support over 100 local jobs by the end of 2025. Natron is currently hiring. You can find out more online here.
