Around 4.7 million Michigan taxpayers filed electronically last year according to the Michigan Department of Treasury.
That’s 90% of state individual income tax filers.
Officials say if you’re using paper forms, make sure you fill in all the information and that it’s legible, review for math errors, check routing and account numbers for direct deposit, and make sure to sign and date forms.
Owe taxes? Taxpayers can pay by check, money order, e-check, debit or credit card.
Individuals who need additional time to file a return can request an extension to October 15.
People requesting more time to file should also estimate their tax liability and pay any taxes owed by Monday, April 15 to avoid additional interest and penalties.
An extension to file is not an extension to pay.
