Neighbors and friends got together Monday for an impromptu condo driveway, solar eclipse viewing party in Grand Rapids Township.

“I went around to multiple libraries picking up my one pair at each library and we prayed for good weather and it turned out well.”

That’s the party planner, Judy Grantz.

“People had all kinds of comments about the past viewings, the future viewings. The one’s we won’t be around to see. We’ve had a good time. We did not bring snacks and we wondered why we didn’t?"

I asked, does that include liquid beverages?

"We weren’t allowed to bring liquid beverages because some people can’t handle them (chuckling).”

“Interesting," exclaimed Rose Ohanesian who added, “Never saw it before in my life. Probably won’t see another. So, it’s cool.”

“I’ve seen eclipses before but not for this long a period,” said Joann Curtis, who lives 'in the circle' at Eagle Crest.”

“It’s really interesting. And we could see the sky change a little bit during the heighth.”

“I think we were all surprised that it didn’t get darker than it did because we were told that we would have like 94% coverage, and we expected it to be darker.”

“My name is Denise Joseph and the four of us play cribbage together. And then I invited Penny because I had an extra pair of glasses.”

Penny explained, “Because the Sunoco was out. The library was out. Everybody was out. I just want to feel a part of the cosmos. More so than in years prior.”
