In August 2023, storm fronts brought heavy rain, strong winds, and seven tornadoes that affected nine counties across the state. The storms left behind damage to roads, bridges, and buildings. Hundreds of homeowners reported residential flooding.
President Biden has approved Michigan’s request for a disaster declaration for the damage.
That means funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are available to those affected, including Ionia and Kent County residents,
They can receive grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and may be covered under other FEMA programs.
The federal assistance is in addition to ongoing state and local recovery efforts.
