A team of Grand Valley students just won first place in an international business competition. They are the first team from the United States to ever win it

“They are very well trained to take over corporate America!”

And they have a trophy to prove it. The Grand Valley State University team won the Schlesinger Global Family Enterprise Case Competition. It’s a four-day international contest in which teams are given a scenario from a real company facing a challenge. The team must analyze the issues and present solutions to judges in four rounds.

“It takes very well-prepared and smart students to really go deep diving into the cases and go into analyses and come up with recommendations tat are attainable of course but also creative.”

Ana Gonzales is the director of the Family Owned Business Institute in the Seidman College of Business. As team advisor, she was thrilled with the win. Then came the email from competition organizers.

“Cherry on top: Congratulations. You should know you’re the first
American team to do this, so it was very exciting.”

Gonzales says the win tells everyone in the business community something she’s always known about students in the Grand Valley business program.

“They’ll see we are a top university that is training them very very well for success.”
