Welcome Plan West Michigan is a group dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for new Americans, immigrants and refugees in Kent County, and this month they’ll be holding a non-profit workshop. Their goal? To teach refugee- and immigrant-led organizations how to start their own non-profit. Marcial Benavidez with Welcome Plan explains the goal of the workshop.
“To see professionals come help assess and find solutions to find things that might be missing or might need work on existing non-profits and also inviting others to come in and learn about the whole process if they’re interested in starting one.”
The workshop will feature non-profit experts discussing foundational steps in creating new non-profits and strengthening existing ones. Benavidez says that while there are already many non-profits out there doing good work, it’s important to educate those who want to do more.
“We realize that there’s a lot of existing non-profits that do a lot of work, but sometimes we want to empower those that think that something is not being addressed and there’s still a lot of people out there saying that they would like to have their chance to start something and help out.”
Part one of the workshop takes place on Saturday, January 20th and part two on Saturday, January 27th. You can attend in person or online, but you must register at KentCountyNewAmericans.org
